Questions parents ask
Does my child need an exam if they see fine?
Yes. Children rarely know how they are supposed to see, and an exam checks how clearly the eyes see and how well they work together.
When should I bring my child?
Bring a child for a first exam before school starts, then about once a year, or as often as Dr. Alaniz advises.
What is a child's exam like?
About 45 minutes, with a parent in the room. We use pictures, shapes and lights, and Dr. Alaniz shows each instrument before she uses it.
Do you work with my vision plan?
We work with many vision plans. Call us, and the front desk checks yours before the visit.
Why was part of the visit billed to medical insurance?
A visit about an eye problem or a follow-up is medical, so it goes to medical insurance. The routine part goes to your vision plan.
Can I fill the prescription somewhere else?
Yes. Your prescription is yours, and you can fill it anywhere.
Can I have my child's contact lens prescription?
Yes, once the fitting is complete and Dr. Alaniz has checked how the lenses sit.
What should I bring?
Your child's glasses and contact lenses, a list of any medicines, your insurance cards and a parent or guardian.
How much will it cost?
It depends on your plan and what the doctor does. The fees page explains how fees work, and we tell you before the visit.
What if there is an eye emergency?
For sudden vision loss, flashes, a curtain over the vision, a chemical splash or an eye injury, go to an emergency room now. If you can't reach us, call 911.
