Contact lenses

Contact lenses for older kids and teens

Some children are ready for contact lenses and some are not. Dr. Alaniz talks with your child and with you at an exam, then decides with you.

What a fitting includes

  • A parent comes to the fitting

  • Your child practices putting lenses in and taking them out before leaving

  • Trial lenses go home first

  • A check-up after the first weeks

From exam to everyday wear

  1. 01

    Step 1: Exam

A full eye exam, and a talk about whether lenses suit your child.

  2. 02

    Step 2: Fitting

Dr. Alaniz measures the eye and picks a lens, then checks how it sits.

  3. 03

    Step 3: Teaching visit

Your child practices handling lenses, with you beside them, until it feels easy.

  4. 04

    Step 4: Check-up

We see your child after a few weeks of wear and check how the eyes are doing.

Your prescription is yours

Your prescription is yours. Once the fitting is complete we give you a copy of the contact lens prescription, and you can fill it anywhere.

Questions about contacts

How old does my child need to be?

There is no set age. It depends on your child and on how well they care for the lenses, and Dr. Alaniz talks it through with you.

Can my child wear them every day?

She tells you how long and how often at the fitting, and the check-ups confirm it is still right.
